The Oyster Society of The Hope & Glory Inn
A gathering of oyster lovers celebrating the perfect pairing of oysters and wine along Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay.
GOOD FOR YOU, GOOD FOR THE PLANET
Centuries old, underrated and overlooked yet it is the most valuable animal on this planet next to humans. There is incomparable value and beauty in the oyster yet so unappealing to the eye and touch that one wonders why anyone would put it in their mouth.
Yet, oysters do more for our planet than any other plant or animal and more for our health – it is already designated a Super Food and titled as the 2nd most nutritious. No plant can top its nutritional benefits.
Environmentally, oysters are one of the most sustainable proteins on earth and the world’s best at protecting our earth. The oyster leverages its natural abilities to filter water, sequester carbon, and build marine habitats. The oyster is the best steward of the environment while simultaneously producing food and supporting local economies.
Membership – the only requirement is a passion for, and some cases an obsession for, oysters and channeling that passion into educating the world that the oyster is the World’s Super Hero. By joining, become the oyster’s champion, advocate, hero, savior, and contributor.
Join our grassroots community to not only relish the luxurious taste of this delicacy; but also to promote it as nutritionally the best food you can eat and the world’s best at protecting our earth. Make the world aware of the unimaginable POWER OF THE OYSTER.
Come to the Hope and Glory Inn’s Dog and Oyster and enjoy two of the world’s most sought-after delicacies on this and in the water – wine and oysters – while simultaneously making and ecological contribution that cannot be matched. THE DOG & OYSTER MICRO-VINEYARD
Open April through October, The Dog & Oyster Micro-Vineyard is a one-of-a-kind wine and oyster experience in the heart of Irvington.
Here, guests enjoy thoughtfully selected oysters grown in local Chesapeake Bay waters paired with wines grown and produced right here on property.
It’s the ultimate culinary pairing — a magical meeting of terroir and merroir.
Our wines were crafted specifically to pair with oysters — the only vineyard in America doing so — creating a tasting experience that celebrates both the land and the waters that surround us.
Each oyster is complemented by creative seasonings and accompaniments designed by our widely acclaimed Chef Meseret, making every visit a little different and always delicious.
The Almighty Oyster
Oysters are a trifecta food—offering three incomparable benefits, each worth getting passionate about:
1. Good to Eat
A sophisticated luxury delicacy—exquisite, savory, and among the world’s most celebrated seafood.
2. Good for Your Health
Designated a superfood, oysters are one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth—nature’s multivitamin, rich in essential nutrients including zinc and B12.*
3. Good for Our Planet
Oysters are one of the most sustainable proteins available—naturally filtering water, sequestering carbon, and building marine habitats.
One Individual Can Make a Difference
Enjoy a dozen oysters, and their shells can be returned to the water—creating the ideal surface for new oysters to grow. Up to 20 oyster larvae can attach to a single oyster’s shells, creating a 20:1 return.
That same dozen can help return 240 oysters to the water.
An oyster filters up to 50 gallons of water per day—meaning 240 oysters can filter 12,000 gallons daily. That’s comparable in weight to 32 Honda Civics, and in volume, roughly the size of a large master bedroom.
Oysters are more than a meal—they are a direct investment in the health of our waters.
