True Love (Boat)

OWNERS’ CRUISES ABOARD TRUE LOVE

TRUE LOVE is a Fortier 26 owned by Dudley and Peggy Patteson, the owners of the Hope and Glory Inn and Vineyard. TRUE LOVE was built by Fortier Boats, a third-generation boat builder located in Somerset, a southern Massachusetts waterfront town. TRUE LOVE is a Downeast style boat with hard chine and a full keel hull which makes it quite seaworthy. “Downeast” refers to parts of eastern coastal New England. The phrase apparently is derived from sailing terminology: sailors from western ports sailed downwind toward the east to reach the area.

The TRUE LOVE was built for Sidney J. “Jim” Weinberg, Jr of Marion, Massachusetts. Mr. Weinberg was a member of the family dynasty, who along with his father and brother, managed the premier investment banking firm of Goldman Sachs for decades. Coincidentally, Mr. Patteson’s brother spent most of his career at Goldman; and, had the pleasure of working with Mr. Weinberg for several of those years.

The Pattesons fell in love with its style (as they did each other). Peggy had lived in Marblehead, MA; and, Dudley traveled on business throughout New England when a New York banker. True love struck again with this boat. The boat is named for the song and boat in the 1956 movie “High Society” starring Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, and Bing Crosby. In the movie, Bing Crosby is aboard True Love, when he serenades Grace Kelly with Cole Porter’s song “True Love”.

Lyrics from the song True Love

Suntanned, windblown

Honeymooners at last alone

Feeling far above par

Oh, how lucky we are

While I give to you and you give to me

True love, true love

So on and on it will always be

True love, true love

For you and I have a guardian angel

On high, with nothing to do

But to give to you and to give to me

Love forever true

The hull is a “mystic” gray with “cloud” white boot and cove stripes. The bottom is painted black which highlights the hull colors at their best. The cabin and cockpit are colorfully full of splashes of black and white – pillows, chinaware, cushions …

The boat has more than enough room to carry 6 passengers. Dudley holds a 100 ton US Coast Guard Masters License and serves as your Captain .

Though nothing about staying at the Hope and Glory that suggests a schedule; except, we do have scheduled cruise times on seasonal Saturdays. Charters with Captain can be booked most any day and time subject to availability and a 24-hour notice.

DEPARTURES:
There are two scheduled cruises: 4 pm and 5:15 pm each Saturday. Each is one hour; as one explores the many coves of Carter’s Creek with a short time on the Rappahannock River.

FARE:
The fare is $95 per passenger, minimum of 4 passengers required and a maximum of 6.

REFRESHMENTS:
A bottle of wine and charcuterie may be ordered 8 hrs in advance at a modest charge of $40 minimum.

The value of a cruise is clearly understood as one finally gets to see the lovely waterfront homes and wildlife. The water is our town’s “main street”.
