What Can You See?

What do you imagine when you think about the Chesapeake Bay? A lot of people would say oysters! When you’re not enjoying the ultimate wine and oyster pairings at our vineyard, you can head over to the Morattico Waterfront Museum to learn about these influential mollusks and the people that helped build the foundation for the modern oyster industry. Some of the permanent displays at the museum include:

  • Crab and Oyster Rooms
  • Farming and Fishing Room
  • Early Morattico Families Room

Where Is it?

If you’d like to check out what the Morattico Museum has to offer, you can find it just north of Belle Island State Park along the Rappahannock River. It’s in Morattico, which is about a thirty-minute drive from the Hope and Glory Inn, making it perfect for an afternoon of history and a picnic in nature’s beauty with your sweetheart. Plus, you can explore this charming, riverfront village and enjoy one of the Northern Neck’s towns

When Is It Open?

Feel free to explore the Morattico Museum between May and October on Saturdays from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mark your calendars for the variety of the events that the museum hosts, too. There’s something for everyone, from oyster roasts to cocktail parties!

Can You Volunteer?

In addition to enjoying all the exhibits here, you’re also always welcome to volunteer to help preserve the rich history of the area. The Morattico Waterfront Museum is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers for maintenance, fundraising, and to be docents.
