Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve

If you’d like to explore some of the undisturbed beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, but a strenuous hike seems a little too daunting, Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve is the place for you. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll on a relatively flat, 1.8-mile path through marshlands, upland forests, and a beautiful stretch of sandy shoreline. There’s a boardwalk, two platforms for observing wildlife, and informative signs. Keep an eye out for river otters and listen for the sweet lullabies from migratory songbirds!

Note: While the preserve is open to visitors, there is currently limited admission. Once the parking lot fills up, no more visitors are allowed until a spot opens. Please visit the official website for news and updates.

Belle Isle State Park

You won’t have any trouble filling a day at Belle Isle State Park near our inn! It’s home to 10 miles of easy trails and fantastic picnic spots to rest and refuel throughout your afternoon. Belle Isle also features 7 miles of shoreline with views of shimmering waters and coastal breezes. If you’d like to venture out onto the water, you can enjoy convenient kayak and canoe rentals nearby!

The location and orientation of this state park on the Rappahannock River also make it perfect for watching sunsets. After a full day of adventures, reward yourself with a front-row seat to the beauty in the skies!

Note: The park is open from dawn to dusk daily, but the visitor center is currently closed. Stay tuned to the park website for information on when the visitor center will reopen.

Hickory Hollow Natural Area Preserve

For those of you who prefer a more moderate difficulty for your hikes, feel free to check out Hickory Hollow Natural Area Preserve. This hidden gem of the Northern Neck is only 15 minutes away from the Hope and Glory Inn! You can explore several different routes here, and each one has the same destination: natural beauty. This 250-acre space of forest and wetlands is home to over 500 different plant species!
